The Walking Dead season 9: Why is Andrew Lincoln leaving?

Why is Andrew Lincoln leaving The Walking Dead? In this article, we want to lay out some of that information for those curious — or for those who may have heard the information earlier this year and just forgot.

Earlier this season, Lincoln announced his departure following some initial reports on the subject. As for the reasoning behind it, much of that starts seemingly with the fact that he has done this show for over eight years now. That’s a long time for any actor to stick with a series, especially one who lives in a different part of the world from where the series films. Because of that, it is rather difficult in order for him to constantly move his family around; people are getting older, and he is now at a point in which it behooves him to stay a little bit more in just one place.

Of course, we do also think that there are some financial considerations that make this move a little bit easier for Lincoln. Here is a man who has made a great deal of money off of playing Rick Grimes over the years, not just from the episodes themselves but also all of the time that he has spent at conventions. While we don’t think having money is the only factor in his decision to leave, having financial stability more than likely made the move easier.

We definitely do not think that Lincoln is going to stop acting now that he is no longer Rick Grimes. Instead, he will more than likely choose roles that either A) film reasonably close to home or B) only film for a finite period of time. He’s also not potentially done with The Walking Dead forever, as there is a chance that he could return as a director for the tenth season, provided that AMC decides that they want to keep the show going (which they should).

We’re going to miss Rick Grimes on The Walking Dead, but it is hard to fault Andrew for his decision. In the end, we just wish him the best and hope that there are some exciting things now coming up in his future.
