The Big Bang Theory season 12 spoilers: Bob Newhart will return

Newhart -

Before we get to the end of The Big Bang Theory season 12, and the series as a whole, you should prepare for one more Bob Newhart appearance.

According to TV Guide, Newhart’s Professor Proton is one of many different familiar faces that you can see turn up in the premiere — we know already that Teller and Kathy Bates are going to be appearing in the premiere, and beyond that you are going to see Jerry O’Connell back as Sheldon’s brother and then also Keith Carradine as Penny’s father. So what about guest stars beyond that? There’s a hope that the writers will get back Laurie Metcalf and Christine Baranski and Sheldon and Leonard’s respective mothers, but there is no confirmation on that just yet.

Are there other guest stars we want to see? Absolutely, with Katey Sagal and Sara Gilbert pretty high up on the list alongside some staples like Wil Wheaton and John Ross Bowie. Yet, at the same time nothing is confirmed, and executive producer Steve Holland doesn’t want to just make the final season all about cameos and guest stars. That makes sense, when there are so many established characters already on the series and so many of them are great.

In speaking further on the subject of guest stars in a new interview with the aforementioned website, here is what Holland had to say on the subject:

“We don’t want the last season to be a rotating parade of guest stars — it still has to be about these characters — but there are certainly people who’ve been important to the show who we’d love to have back on before it’s over.”

We are hoping that some guest stars just pop up by surprise — after all, the last thing that we want is for everything to be spoiled in advance!
