Will How to Get Away with Murder season 5 bring series closer to the end?
With that in mind, the creative team behind the scenes is understandably starting to think more about what the end of the series could look like. For a little bit more on that, here is what showrunner Pete Nowalk had to say on the subject to TV Guide:
I have an idea for the last season, for sure. Obviously it’s hard because you don’t know when that last season’s going to be. I’ve been pretty honest about this since the beginning, but it’s like when you write a pilot, I didn’t know who killed Sam. So am I the type of writer who knows how the show’s going to end? No. And I think that’s life. And these characters, like, people change really quickly. Trump became President and I feel like the whole world changed in a night. So that’s kind of how I’m writing. I never thought Annalise would argue at the Supreme Court. I didn’t think she’d give a sh– about that. Now I’m really proud of her for that. I think there’s a trajectory that I’m keeping in mind. I’m not wanting to get there too soon.

If the ratings from season 4 hold reasonably firm, we do think that it is possible that How to Get Away with Murder could run until season 5. If they continue to fall, however, that is when we could start to see a little bit of danger when it comes to the long-term future.
For now, let’s just how that the season 5 renewal comes in the next few weeks so that Nowalk and the team can start building towards whatever this ending is — no matter when it airs.
