Chicago Fire season 6 spoilers: Kim Delaney playing Severide’s mom!

Severide's mother

After more than five years, Chicago Fire is getting set to finally showcase Severide’s mom — played by Kim Delaney, no less!

Sources confirm that the former NYPD Blue actress is going to appear on the show (on the other side of the Olympic hiatus) in the role of Jennifer Sheridan, a woman who did help to raise Kelly for a big part of his childhood. She at one point did embrace a party-girl lifestyle, but a lot has changed since that time and she has leveled out and is now living a far more peaceful, sedentary life. She is a part of a church community, she is down-to-earth, and is trying to move forward from her past.

Yet, are some of her old habits really dead and buried? This could be a part of her story when she turns up.

Speaking per TVLine, executive producer Derek Haas notes that there is going to be an explanation on the show as to why we haven’t had a chance to see Severide’s mother to date — we suppose that these reasons aren’t just “waiting for the right guest star to come by.” What CarterMatt finds very interesting at this particular moment is that this casting comes right in the middle of a season all about family. To be specific, we know that a huge part of the theme for Chicago Fire season 6 is how family outside of the firehouse ends up impacting the firehouse family. It’s possible that Delaney’s character ends up being a part of the Chicago Fire season 6 story that stirs up all sorts of emotions, and that could prove to be rather interesting to behold.

Beyond just that, we also wonder whether or not her appearance on the show will lead in turn to some additional appearances from Benny. It does seem as though anytime we see Severide’s father on the show, interesting things come as a result of that.
