NCIS, Law & Order: SVU actress Diane Neal reportedly running for Congress
In a new report via the Daily Freeman out of the area, Neal is running as an Independent for a seat in New York’s 19th Congressional District. This is a widespread district currently held by Republican John Faso, but Neal seems to believe that she possesses both the skill and the ability to compete in this space. Here is some of what she had to say on the subject of her platform to the website:
“I’m a little Libertarian, I’m a lot liberal, mostly progressive, but I have this amazing ability to be able to take really complicated policy and break it down into edible sound bites, which is something most progressive liberals cannot do … I love this country. The majority of my family, most are active service at the moment. Even my grandmother, who escaped the Holocaust, she came to New York, she joined the Navy. She was a bad ass, she was awesome.”
We do think that it’s always a great thing seeing more people get involved in public service, especially when they put themselves in a position to study hard and really learn the ins and outs of what it means to care for your constituents. It seems as though Neal is doing that — we’ve been a fan of her work for some time (you know this if you are a regular CarterMatt reader), so we are definitely intrigued to see how this campaign turns out for her.
More than anything else, we think that what we need in this current political atmosphere are some fresh voices and ideas — people who can come up to the table and offer up some perspectives that are completely different than any other that we’ve seen or heard before. Without getting too political (we are a television site after all), we also need people who will know when to fight, but also when to show respect and work together for a common goal.
