Ratings Bubble Report: Could a SEAL Team season 2 happen on CBS?
So could SEAL Team be renewed for a second season, and have Boreanaz and the rest of the cast done enough to ensure that this is going to happen? While nothing is certain, there is a reason now for cautious optimism.
Understanding the latest SEAL Team season 1 ratings
To date, SEAL Team is totaling around a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which puts the series right in the mix with the bulk of the other CBS scripted programming. It’s behind such flagship hits as NCIS and Survivor but is really comparable to almost everything else. It’s outperforming much of the Friday lineup, it’s generating numbers relatively on par with what we’re seeing with the other editions of the NCIS franchise, and it’s outperforming many other shows like Scorpion and Madam Secretary. While it’s generating slightly fewer viewers total (a little over 7 million a week) than the NCIS shows, it’s doing a respectable job for a new series at a difficult time against Law & Order: SVU.

Why SEAL TEAM could be renewed for season 2
If you are looking at numbers in general, it’s hard to make the case against SEAL Team coming back. The whole objective when you create a show is that it will compete with the rest of your schedule and SEAL Team is doing that. There’s nothing to be upset about when it comes to the series’ ratings, and with that, we’re feeling reasonably optimistic about a SEAL Team season 2 happening.
This is also a show that feels ripe to get some more buzz in the months to come when viewers discover it. Boreanaz also is popular all over the world thanks to some of his past series so we have to think that this gives SEAL Team a little bit of international licensing play.
Why SEAL Team could be canceled
Either the show costs some ridiculous amount of money (doubtful), or CBS really feels for whatever reason that the ratings here are strictly the result of the show’s lead-in and it’s not going to be able to replicate this performance down the road.
Our Verdict: SEAL Team will be renewed
CBS has until May to figure this out, but we don’t think it will take that long. More than likely you’re going to hear about a renewal for this show in either March or April. The numbers could be better, but it’s performing well enough to not be in severe danger.
