Golden Globes 2018: Caitriona Balfe talks on E! red-carpet pre-show

The 2018 Golden Globes and E! aired a red-carpet pre-show tonight, and, just like we hoped, we got a chance to see a Caitriona Balfe interview!

What did Caitriona talk about with Guiliana Rancic? A couple of different things, including her friendship with Sam Heughan.

Balfe started off the interview by talking a bit about how the two knew that they were going to be friends almost from the start — and, as we reported earlier, why Sam wasn’t at the awards show tonight:

“Yeah. We’re great friends, and I think from day one we decided that we’re in it together and we have to watch each others’ backs … I (jokingly) sent him home to actually [go] to work.”

Balfe also talked briefly about some of the projects that she watched growing up that made her want to become an actor, with one of the most notable ones being the 1945 slapstick comedy Getting Gertie’s Garter. She described “[growing] up watching all these amazing ’40s actresses doing some [incredible] things,” and how that led to her having that desire to take on wonderful material herself. She said that she’s very much a fan of many of the different people that she is nominated alongside this year — this is her third straight Golden Globes of being up for Actress in a Drama Series, and it remains to be seen whether or not she takes the trophy home. We’ll be rooting for her her at CarterMatt!

Following the Globes, Balfe will get a chance to celebrate, win or loss, and then after that she is also off to Scotland to resume work on the fourth season of the show. She and much of the rest of the cast and crew have had a little bit of a break for the holidays, but she will be back before long to continue playing the part of Claire Fraser — and hopefully, get some more nominations along the way.
