The Walking Dead season 8 episode 9 teaser: The last stand

Walking Dead season 8

If you’ve gone looking for The Walking Dead season 8 tonight on AMC CarterMatt comes bearing some rather sad news — there is no new episode tonight. The same goes for next week, the week after that, and of course the week after that.

Notice a pattern here? Well, the drama series is off the air from now until February when the show returns to the network. This is the same pattern that The Walking Dead does year after year — it airs eight episodes in the fall, is off during part of the winter, and then returns with new episodes in February. This year is no exception to the rule. The only difference here is that The Walking Dead is returning directly against the Winter Olympics. That’s a somewhat-surprising decision (no one wants to go up against that ratings monster) but clearly AMC thinks that their walkers can withstand the likes of figure skating and snowboarding. It’s probably true, but doesn’t the show need all of the viewers that it can get at the moment?

While you wait to see the return of The Walking Dead in the new year, check out the teaser promo below and its promises of a “Last Stand” brewing. You’ve got Negan on one side and then Rick Grimes on the other with the loser likely facing death or possibly a fate worse then death. It’s something that’s been brewing for a rather long time on this series, but the latest character death may serve as some sort of distraction to the war: Losing Carl. The show’s midseason premiere will likely feature the death of the character and Chandler Riggs’ final appearance as a major part of the show. Carl’s imminent death may be the most controversial in the entire history of The Walking Dead — with Glenn, you at least had a character who was killed off at around the same time as the comics. With Carl, the character was meant to survive so much longer than he did on the show.

We’ll be mourning Carl for a while — both before and after his death. Let’s just hope that The Walking Dead is going to find a way to pay off one of its most depressing twists within the first few episodes of the second half of the season, because we are pretty much over this war with Negan – it’s time to move on to something else after two seasons.
