Psych: The Movie creator on that Timothy Omundson cameo
Filming in Los Angeles (where the actor is recovering from a stroke earlier this year), Omundson made his appearance in the form of a video-call message to Juliet O’Hara (Maggie Lawson) giving her some advice on a case. It was the show’s way of honoring his work on the show, and hopefully, this does set the stage for an opportunity to see more of him on another movie down the road.
One of the most heartwarming things about the whole cameo is that when the scene was recorded, Lawson came and read the off-screen lines for Tim to play off of. This was confirmed by creator Steve Franks to Entertainment Weekly, and it serves as a reminder of just how much this cast cares about each other. You could also see, in turn, just how much the entire Psych fandom cared about the cameo judging from the social-media reaction — it was overwhelmingly positive, and we know that for some this was a tear-jerking moment as they got a chance to see one of their favorite characters after everything that Omundson has been through. We’re still sending him all the love and support in the world.
As for the possibility of another movie, much of that depends on the ratings for the first one! Franks told the publication that he’s interested in collaborating with James Roday on another movie — we think it will happen if the demand is there, since the entirety of the cast and crew don’t seem to have anything other than happy, positive things to say about getting to make this one. The great thing about it is that if they keep the shooting schedule the same it’ll be easier to accommodate actors who land other jobs along the way.
