Supernatural season 13 spoilers: Misha Collins hints at Castiel return
For the most part these questions are hard to get definite answers to with one key exception: It does feel as though Collins will be back as Castiel in some shape or form. After all, his quote to Entertainment Weekly on that subject leans into that:
“Everyone is healthy and in fighting shape and ready to go … We’re all a team again.”
One of the reasons why the character is even gone at the moment is because Supernatural needs to establish some sort of feeling of loss. They need to make you feel as viewers of the show that you are missing out on something substantial with Castiel gone, and this is something that Jensen Ackles also discusses to the website when talking about where his character Dean’s mind is at present:
“[The loss is] just constant … It’s Dad and Bobby, and now it’s Mom and it’s Cas. It’s this vicious cycle of loss and grief. Dean just needs to feel like there’s hope.”
What will the brothers do in the absence of this sort of hope? That answer feels reasonably clear: Rely on each other. When you don’t have many other shoulders to lean on you have to find those who are close to you and lean on them. That, sometimes, is really the only way that you can get by. Hopefully Castiel’s return will be at a time when Sam and Dean need that emotionally lift — even if the character has changed somewhat as a result of his apparent death, there could still be somewhat of a spiritual/emotional life that helps them all and prepares them even more for whatever is coming up the remainder of the season. We can only hope that there are some good things and welcome surprises on the way for all of the characters — given that we’re writing about Supernatural here, it almost feels like a given that you’ll get a chance to see a few things that nobody expects. (Who would’ve ever thought that Scooby-Doo would be the basis for a crossover?)
