Supernatural season 13 episode 3 spoilers: Loretta Devine returns
Remember Loretta Devine as Missouri Mosely? It’s understandable if you do not given that we haven’t seen the character turn up on the show in a really long time. The last time she was around the Winchesters, it was season 1 and the show was actually still airing on The WB. Seriously. That’s how long it’s been. We love that executive producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb are diving that far back into the show’s history for this appearance — it’s a treat to longtime fans. There may be some people out there who don’t even remember the character, but for those who do they’ll likely enjoy the effort.
Devine’s upcoming appearance on Supernatural season 13 episode 3 is entitled “Patience,” and it is coming your way on October 26. The synopsis below does give you a little bit more of a since as to what’s coming up here:
“When her friend is murdered by a wraith (guest star Jon Cor) with a taste for psychics, Missouri (guest star Loretta Devine) enlists the help of Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Jody (guest star Kim Rhodes) to protect her granddaughter, Patience (guest star Clark Backo), who has no idea she shares her grandmother’s trait and could be next on the wraith’s hit list. Meanwhile, Sam (Jared Padalecki) continues to work with Jack (Alexander Calvert) on learning how to control his powers. Robert Singer directed the episode written by Robert Berens (#1303). Original airdate 10/26/2017.”
There is a little more going on here than just the return of Devine, given that the appearance of the Patience character alongside Jody Mills are going to be key components in the upcoming Wayward Sisters spin-off idea. This is just a novel way to introduce a new character by tying them to someone who was on the very first season. We figure that this is going to be the main story for this episode, whereas the side plot could be seeing how Sam works with Jack to ensure that he has some of his powers under control. Jack is basically the Supernatural version of a big kid and we’re going to get a chance to see over time more of how he handles being different from everyone else and having no defined equal when it comes to someone who can teach him right from wrong with his abilities. The Winchesters are really the best that he has , and luckily they do understand a lot of unusual stuff about the world.
