Why a Major Crimes season 7 isn’t happening on TNT
In a new post on Facebook showrunner James Duff opened up about the show’s sudden cancellation (we’ll call it that, since that’s the word Duff uses), explaining that he will have more information on what happened in the near future:
“I’m directing the finale of Major Crimes, so I can’t really answer all the questions that are being asked today about why Major Crimes was cancelled before we ran our sixth season. But I do want you to know that it was not at all my idea, nor did I want to leave the show. The actors, the writers, the producers and our talented crew would have held on as long as we were relevant. I am extraordinarily thankful to our viewers, who followed us to four different time slots in the last eighteen months, and who make up a very large part of what we call the community of the show. Without the loyalty of our audience, Major Crimes would have been gone much sooner. We’ll have a chance to talk about what happened in the near future. Meanwhile, we are determined to give you the best season we can. So sorry I couldn’t stop this moment from happening.”
We have shared some of our various frustrations on TNT over the past year or so when it comes to the scheduling for Major Crimes and the possible adverse effects it had on the ratings. For example, the final run of season 5 was aired opposed Criminal Minds and Law & Order: SVU — shows with a very similar audience and ones with their own devoted fan following. Meanwhile, the season 6 premiere is set to air on Halloween — not a great night for new programming — and presumably opposite NBC behemoth This Is Us. (Even if it airs a repeat that week, it’ll still be back as competition in the future.) We could even point out the little things that frustrate us, including the show’s Twitter bio not being updated to show when new episodes are going to air later this month.
Ultimately, we can’t speak for how anyone on the cast and crew feel about some of the odd decisions coming from the network, but we love Major Crimes and have loved supporting the fandom the past few years. Remember, Sharon and Andy recently won our CarterMatt Crime Dynamic Duos, and we’ve gotten a chance to see how positive and encouraging many of the fans are.
Rest assured that however long the show lasts we’re going to have more coverage along the way. It’s probably too early to talk about possible future homes for the show (there needs to be more research done on that before diving into the subject); for now, stay tuned.

It’s a mediocre show on a good day. The scripts are predictable and low level and the acting is…..not great. They had a good run
