Scorpion season 4 musical number: Katharine McPhee, Robert Patrick talk filming
In the new video below, you can see a better sense than ever before about how the Scorpion season 4 musical number came together, including some filming featuring Katharine McPhee, Robert Patrick, and the remainder of the cast. You can see them all do their part in order to describe what the process was like of working on this episode together, including getting in the fancy costumes and dancing around. We learn in here that Robert Patrick may not be the best dancer in the world (but he’s game!), Elyes Gabel is going to belt out some notes, and that Jadyn Wong is going to give it her all in what seems to be in part an homage to Bjork.
This entire opening is silly, and while we’re not the biggest fan of TV musical episodes sometimes, it does work for shows where it actually fits the tone. Since Scorpion is a lighthearted and funny show, it doesn’t feel like a huge distraction since we never really view the show as living within a serious world much of the time anyway. We watch the show for the entertainment and for the love of all of these characters, and this should be a celebration of that.
Also, we do think it makes sense for Scorpion to get a little more publicity, if for no other reason than that the timing of it all. You could argue that this Scorpion season 4 musical number helps to ensure that it doesn’t get as lost in the shuffle premiering the same week as dozens of other shows on other networks. It’s not in the fourth season, and otherwise some of the initial hype and drama has faded away ever so slightly. this keeps the series a little more in the spotlight, and it’s also something that many fans out there (let alone CarterMatt readers) have been calling for ever since Katharine McPhee first signed on as a series regular. In between American Idol and Smash, she’s had a chance to effectively take on a wide array of different fun things.
Ultimately, don’t expect the entire premiere episode to include a ton of singing and dancing. Consider this instead more of the jumping-off point, and a chance for the show to do a wide array of other fun stuff after the fact.
