Blindspot season: Should ‘Jeller’ fans be fearful following time jump?

Jeller

Mrs. Carter: For all big-time Blindspot – “Jeller” fans, there may not be a reason to be as concerned about their future as you once thought.

Jane and Weller are, (by and large) the backbone of the series. Even if they are not together romantically, it’s hard to really push forward without the two collaborating to some degree. They’re the straw that stirs the drink, the x-factors of the action, or almost any other metaphor of importance that you want to construct. They are just not the same without one another, and that’s a fun dynamic to see play out.

Luckily, herein lies some good news: You will see the Jane and Weller collaborating more during season 3, and you’re also going to be seeing them (eventually) finding their way back together. As a matter of fact, you may not even have to wait that long to see Jeller become a reality once more! Speaking on this subject to TVLine, executive producer Martin Gero passed along the following message:

“So much will be explained. What’s Jane doing in the middle of nowhere? Why haven’t [she and Weller] seen each other in so long? Why did she run? All of that will be answered, and they’ll immediately pick up to go find their friends … [Meanwhile, the] first episode back is going to be the most fulfilling ‘Jeller’ episode we’ve ever done. They are in love, there’s a very good reason they haven’t seen each other in a while and Weller’s been searching for her.”

So even though there may be a time jump from one season to the next, ultimately there shouldn’t be a cause for all that much concern when it comes to Blindspot and the pair’s future. Just allow the show a chance to explain itself, and breathe easy knowing that the primary focus here does not appear to be on any sort of will-they-or-won’t-they romance. Instead, the focus can be on the tattoos, the mythology, and also if we’re going to have a chance to see a little more insight regarding what the supporting cast is up to. Remember: We’re jumping forward years here! It would be wrong to assume that characters like Patterson and Zapata would be in the same spot that they were at in the past. This is a show that does evolve people, and they’ve done that with Jeller in a rather interesting way already.

Blindspot season 3 will premiere on NBC later this fall — remember to watch it live given that it will be facing a wide array of new challenges with it airing in a new timeslot on Friday nights. Hopefully, we’ll see NBC give the show a really solid push in marketing and promoting it in the weeks to come.
