MacGyver season 2 premiere spoilers: What’s the new mission? (photo)
The challenge that the writers have on a weekly basis is this: Trying to find a way to build a better metaphorical mousetrap for the characters. Week in and week out, they need to get Mac and Jack into some sort of perilous situation where it looks like they could die at any given moment; then, they have to find a way to get them out of this situation in a way that’s creative, exciting, and also different than any other mission that we’ve seen before. Given that we’re just in the second season at the moment, this probably isn’t as challenging as it will be in a potential third or fourth season when more ideas are used up. Nonetheless, creativity is very much key to making these stories live up to some of our expectations even this early into the game. Luckily, “DIY or DIE” does sound fun — the episode title alone is enough to make you curious!
If you look below, you can see (via the CBS synopsis for the MacGyver season 2 premiere) just what the mousetrap is going to be for these characters now:
“Using a cell phone and soccer ball, MacGyver and the team search for a Navy SEAL who is believed to be alive in captivity in the Middle East.”
Basically, this is a search-and-rescue mission, and at one point we could see the team surrounded by bad guys and forced to fight their way out. Probably the thing that has us the most curious at the moment is the image above, which features George Eads and Lucas Till grabbing hold of each other while presumably some other people are dragging them away. The first thing that is on our mind after seeing something like this is that these two guys probably got a few scrapes shooting this scene on the pavement!
If you followed the first season of MacGyver closely, you’re probably well aware already as to why the network is being so coy when it comes to details on what’s coming. They always frame their synopses in such a way to emphasize the stakes of Mac’s mission more so than any side-stories or anything else going on. If this helps to promote the show more so than other synopses would, more power to them.
What else is coming?
We know that there is a MacGyver season 2 casino episode coming, just as it’s also fair to say that we’ll see a few returning favorites from season 1 back. The one thing that’s a shame is that given Tracy Spiridakos’ recent promotion over on Chicago PD, it’s probably going to be hard to see more of Nikki beyond just an episode or two a season (if that).
