Arrow season 6 spoilers: Manu Bennett talks altering Slade Wilson scene

Manu Bennett

Even though Manu Bennett hasn’t really played Slade Wilson/Deathstroke all that often on Arrowhe’s very in tune still with the character. For example, he seems very well aware of some of the stuff that he would or would not do.

Following the season 5 finale, the good news seems to be that Slade is in good standing with Oliver Queen and the rest of the team. The effects of the mirakuru are gone, and he’s now on the path to some sort of redemption. Yet, the thing here is that he and Oliver have still gone through fire together, and Slade killed Moira Queen back in the second season. As a result of that, it’s not all that easy for him to just fit in and be a regular part of the team — and he won’t be. We’re going to have a chance to see Slade on a few different appearances moving forward this season, and in that time, we’ll see things develop.

For the time being, it is very interesting to know that Manu was attentive enough in filming the season 6 premiere to have co-showrunner Marc Guggenheim re-write a scene that he felt wasn’t right for the character. In a new interview with MyMBuzz on this subject, Bennett said that the initial version of it was too “chummy,” and didn’t feel right for who these people are:

“I’m kind of just wanting to preserve the strength of the relationship between Slade and Oliver on that level. It’s such a stand-alone relationship; I just don’t want to get caught up in the group and be like ‘Hey, high five! Yeah!’”

This makes sense, given that Slade doesn’t know about any of these people at all, and in all honesty, probably doesn’t care all that much about them, either. What matters more to him is his history with Oliver, and trying to figure out what his future is going to look like now that he’s seemingly a free man. A recent casting notice suggests that we could be seeing his son, and that could prove interesting given that in Legends of Tomorrow, his son was a future Deathstroke. Things could be a little bit different now, though, given that almost everything has been altered by Flashpoint in one form or another.
