Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 5: Premiere date hopes; Jake – Rosa questions
The Fox comedy starring Andy Samberg has done a good job over the years of cultivating some rather big surprises in the closing minutes — even in midseason finales, no less! Remember what happened earlier this season with Gina?
This time around, the big cliffhanger is a little bit tied more to the status of Jake and Rosa, who could be facing many years in prison for a crime that they didn’t even commit. While they did imitate bank robbers, this was all a part of an undercover sting operation. Trying to get the judge or the jury to see that, however, proved very challenging.
There is no season 5 premiere date just yet, but expect the show back this fall. For more, just head over here to see the full Fox fall schedule.
Meanwhile, executive producer Dan Goor said the following to Entertainment Weekly on the subject of why he and the writers came up with this decision:
“It was very much of the [Brooklyn co-creator] Mike Schur school of write yourself into a corner that is impossible to get out of, and then spend the hiatus pushing it away and pretending like it didn’t happen, and then spend pre-production figuring out how the hell you’re going to get out of that hole. We had had this idea from the start of this season, that there would be an end arc like this, but we just didn’t know where we were going to end it. We knew it would end with a trial, and we knew it would end with a verdict, but there was a version which was like, “Should the verdict come back, and you don’t know what it is, and that’s the cliffhanger?” But at the end of the day, it just felt like the only way to go.”
As for whether or not season 5 could be the final season for the show, that’s still unclear at the moment. If we were the writers, however, he would plan for the end to be near, but then also hope for the best.
