Fox Fall 2017 Schedule: Lucifer season 3, Empire season 4 on the move

This morning the Fox Fall 2017 Schedule was released, and it should feel both reasonably similar and different at the same time. The majority of the shows on this fall are either new or in new time slots. Some moves make some sense, and other moves make you bat an eye.

In addition to sharing the schedule below, you can also get analysis on a nightly basis. Consider this similar to what was posted for the NBC schedule last night. All times listed are Eastern; adjust accordingly per time zone.

Monday

8:00 – Lucifer (new time)

9:00 – The Gifted (new series)

Putting Lucifer up against Supergirl is a little bit of a bummer as someone who enjoys both shows, but they probably don’t have a huge crossover audience otherwise. Placing The Gifted here is a chance for it to score some pretty great ratings given that there isn’t much similar competition out there.

Tuesday

8:00 – Lethal Weapon (new time)

9:00 – The Mick (new time)

9:30 – Brooklyn Nine-Nine (new time)

The big concern here is not with Lethal Weapon (which should be fine even with NCIS competition), but with there being potentially three networks in ABC, NBC, and Fox all airing comedies at the same time.

Wednesday

8:00 – Empire (new time)

9:00 – Star (new time)

Finally, Fox wises up and gives some of its other shows a chance to capitalize on the Empire lead-in. Airing it at this time may be tough for shows like Survivor or The Blacklist (which is moving to this spot), but it should be just fine and it may end up assisting Star in the process.

Thursday

8:00 – Gotham (new time)

9:00 – The Orville (new series)

Separating Gotham from Supergirl seems smart, but it may be more questionable if Legends of Tomorrow ends up airing here. As for The Orville, the Seth MacFarlane series could find its success dependent on the critical reception. Here’s to hoping that it isn’t terrible.

Friday

8:00 – Hell’s Kitchen

9:00 – The Exorcist

The only night without some sort of change. This is fairly ironic given that The Exorcist was a bit of a surprise renewal to some in the first place.

Sunday

7:30 – Bob’s Burgers

8:00 – The Simpsons

8:30 – Ghosted (new series)

9:00 – Family Guy

9:30 – The Last Man on Earth

Ghosted has the challenge of being the first 8:30 new series in forever to actually make good on the timeslot before it. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is more or less the only show to recent air in that spot to last for a little while.
