‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: Be prepared for a big Wild Dog feature
How did Rene become Wild Dog in Star City? One of the interesting parts of “Arrow” season 5 is that when Ragman and Wild Dog were introduced, we dove straight into their present — we weren’t told all that much about their pasts. We came to learn more about where Rory came from and why he wore the rags out of revenge, but Wild Dog is a tad more mysterious — a bit ironic really, given that he is a character who has no problem speaking his mind.
Luckily, there is going to be an exciting chance to learn more about him on the upcoming thirteenth episode of the season (airing on Wednesday, February 15) entitled “Spectre of the Gun.” Through flashbacks, you’ll start to see over the hour why he decided to fight crime as a vigilante. The real impetus for the story seems to be a tragic shooting, which brings back difficult memories for him of his childhood. Is it a surprise that he had a difficult time growing up? Hardly, given the fact that being a vigilante is not your ordinary profession. This is something that you tend to fall into as a result of some difficulties that you’ve gone through.
The story for Oliver Queen in this episode will be just about as interesting, meanwhile, mostly in that Oliver is going to realize that the best way to face off against whoever the shooter is will be to do so as the Mayor of Star City more so than the Green Arrow. There is some sound reasoning to that, mostly because Oliver comes from a place that is perceived to be loyalty and respect. It’s a little different than being a masked man, given that it can be hard sometimes to get someone to see your point of view when you are floating around in such a sea of anonymity.
Could getting a Wild Dog feature mean that we’re also getting one about Rory? We certainly hope so, given that additional perspectives to us on the show are rarely a bad thing. That’s especially true now that we’re getting to know these characters so well in the present.
