‘Bones’ season 12: What should be Hodgins’ endgame?
With “Bones” firmly in its final season now, we do think that this is the time to start getting a little reflective in some of these articles. How will some of these stories ends, and how should they end? It varies from character to character, because so many of them have had very different journeys over the course of the series run so we want to dive into a few of the main characters over the next few weeks who have made an impact on the show as well as on the fans.
For today’s article, we’re looking specifically at T.J. Thyne and his role of Dr. Jack Hodgins, one of four characters who have been regulars for every season of the show so far. He’s a character we’ve come to love, but he’s also someone who has underwent some devastating struggles courtesy of what he’s gone through the past two seasons. Being paralyzed is not a fate many people anticipated for the character many seasons ago, especially at a time when there was devastation surrounding another character in Sweets. Yet, it’s happened, and it has brought such a meaty, interesting story for Thyne to get into.
In many ways, Hodgins has gone through his own stages of dealing with this. He’s battled depression, he’s been angry, he’s pushed Angela away, and he’s also done everything that he can to find a way to get better so that he can walk again. Most recently, though, he’s decided to adopt a new philosophy in acceptance that suits him very well. He still remains the same likable guy he always was, and he’s finding new ways to conquer some of the circumstances that have been put before him. He’s not allowing this to get in the way of his life anymore, and even on this past episode we certainly saw his relationship with Angela improve (even if it led to a broken wheel in the process) and the talk of expanding their family.
So how should his story end? While career-wise we’re sure that there is so much more Jack could do, we like him staying at the Jeffersonian. It seems to be his calling, his literal and metaphorical family is there, and he’s incredible at his job. Also, we of course hope to see his relationship with Angela flourish even more than it has so far. They’ve been through a lot, and they deserve everything that could come their way.
Finally, and it may sound strange, but we are not hoping for a miracle to appear and give Hodgins a way to walk again. While this may make his life more difficult in some ways, we do think that his attitude and spirit could serve as an inspiration for a lot of people out there that nothing can hold them back. Plus, we also don’t want another possible cure-all to come up, only to leave him more disappointed and hurt in the end. He’s got a great life, and an opportunity to move forward and help others.
