‘Shadowhunters’ season 2 spoilers: Exec on major change versus season 1
While “Shadowhunters” season 2 is still many weeks away from its premiere, we are starting to get a little bit more of a sense as to what it is about, and just how it’s going to be different this time from what we saw in season 1. The source material may still be the same, but there are going to be some shifts in both the tone and the content. These characters have been through so much more, and as a result of that, this will be reflected in their further experiences moving forward.
Todd Slavkin is one of the new showrunners going into the second season of the show, and in speaking on the subject of the changes ahead to Entertainment Weekly, he explained some of the things that they wanted to explore now that they are focusing in on the series:
“There were a lot of cool things that perhaps could be cooler, visual-effect wise, the look of the show. We took the rooms and we darkened them … We’re character guys. We wrote Smallville for many years and the thrill of that for us was the character and the growth and the relationships between the people. If anything, in season 2, we’re leaning more into that. Of course there’s missions and of course there’s hunting, but the yearning, the longing, the triangles, the relationships is what really turns us on.”
If all of this turns out to be true, we could end up seeing potentially one of the best overall arcs that we’ve seen across Freeform as a whole in a while. The relationship stuff will probably be a ‘shipper’s delight, and to go along with that further, the missions should appease some fans of the books. The more they make this world look different and unique, the better off we’ll all probably be.
