‘Criminal Minds’ season 12, episode 7 preview: Joe Mantegna directs ‘Mirror Image’

Criminal Minds -Clearly, we are at the moment right in the thick of things when it comes to “Criminal Minds” stars directing episodes of the show. Tonight, Matthew Gray Gubler is taking on “Elliott’s Pond,” an episode als written by showrunner Erica Messer. Meanwhile, the next new installment “Mirror Image” (airing on November 30) is going to be directed by none other than Joe Mantegna. This is a duty that he’s familiar with, having done it on a number of occasions in the past. Still, we enjoy seeing this sort of thing happen since it marks a further opportunity to see someone expand their horizons and work on a different sort of craft.

As for the story itself for this episode, early information suggests that this is going to be a key hour for Aisha Tyler’s character of Dr. Tara Lewis.

Synopsis – “The BAU team opens an investigation when a man who fully believes he’s Dr. Tara Lewis’ (Aisha Tyler) brother arrives in town, knowing everything about her and her family, and she is unable to make contact with her real sibling.”

One of the things that the show needs to work on at this point in the season now is digging a little bit deeper with many of its characters and giving them something further to do. As far as outside-the-team stories, we haven’t seen too much outside of some recently-resolved tension between Alvez and Garcia coupled with Red having to fae some new struggles related to his mother. With Jane Lynch returning later in the season for the first time in years as this character, we do at least know that this particular story is going to pay off.

For those wondering why we’re waiting until the end of the month to see this story, the reason’s as simple as that the show doesn’t want to overly cannibalize itself (and understandably so) by giving you an episode the day before Thanksgiving, where ratings are going to take a pretty clear hit.
