‘The X Factor’ UK: Honey G can’t shake up ‘Ice Ice Baby’
Before her performance on “The X Factor” this weekend, Honey G is facing yet another roadblock getting in the way of a good performance — or at least good by whatever standards she’s operating from.
This time around, it may be coming from the estate of none other than legendary late artist David Bowie’s estate over her performance of “Ice Ice Baby.” Why would this matter? Well, the Vanilla Ice hit samples Bowie’s song with Queen “Under Pressure,” and there may be some sort of fear that she’ll create her own lyrics that will augment the memory of the original song. We’ll see if this changes by the time of tonight’s show, but for now a source had the following to say on the subject to the Daily Mirror:
“Bowie’s estate have been very reluctant in letting her use the song, she can’t make it her own in any way and must stick to Vanilla Ice’s version.”
Personally, we’re okay with this just because most of Honey G’s “sick rhymes” to date have mostly just been call-and-response bits with the audience about her name. Trust us: We have a feeling that we know what Honey G’s name is by now.
For the first week of the live shows, we actually thought that she was pretty decent insofar as being a memorable performer. However, this past performance was a bit of a mess, and didn’t really accomplish much of anything. We think we’re at the tipping point now where the novelty that was once present here is now gone, and the show is better off just preparing to cut some of its losses now and move on.
