‘Quantico’ season 2, episode 2 preview: Can Ryan solve a hostage crisis?
The second season of “Quantico” premiered on ABC Sunday night with an episode that was tighter, smarter, and every bit as intense as it was during season 1. The show still has a little bit of that season 1 in-training quality, but it feels a little bit less like a mixture of “Homeland” meets “Harry Potter” and instead it’s finding it’s own voice… and we like it.
So where are we going moving into the next new installment? Well, “Lipstick” is the title for the hour, and now that Alex and Ryan know that they are in a hostage situation in the future, they are going to have to rely on some other characters — including Raina — to ensure that the terrorists are not able to disguise themselves. For the time being, that is why they have some significant leverage over the hostages. The synopsis below offers up a little more information regarding what you can expect:
“The new CIA recruits begin running counter-surveillance exercises at The Farm while Alex and Ryan navigate their new relationship with each other. In the future, Ryan and Raina try to disrupt the terrorists’ plan to blend in with hostages while trust becomes a deadly weapon, as not everyone is who they seem to be.”
In speculating on that new Ryan / Alex relationship, the thing that is working against them now is that they have to sell their relationship as being more platonic than it is while also staying focused on the mission. Sure, they are both excellent at espionage and doing what they can for their country, but it’s a little bit harder to do when feelings are on the line. It’s not like it was in season 1, where they barely knew each other.
