‘The X Factor’ UK video: Is Honey G serious?
There are some auditions on “The X Factor” that you feel right away are serious / something great, and then there are others that are probably going to make you slam your head against the wall. Why? They’re a complete trainwreck and there’s no reason why you should like them, but there’s a part of you that doesn’t want to see them go anywhere, either.
This is where we are at the moment with Honey G, an entertainer from Northwest London who approaches the judges this weekend in hopes of making it far on the show. There is a part of this that feels like a complete joke, almost as if someone dared her at work to go on the show with sunglasses and a silly name. The first part of this is outright terrible.
Yet, there’s something oddly entertaining about her Missy Elliott cover, and it makes us wonder if she could get people in an arena supporting her. She’s someone who is trying to put herself out there, and that’s admirable.
In the end, we wouldn’t be shocked if Honey G moves on just for the sake of bringing some entertainment to some other performances down the road. We presume that you could make some Stevi Ritchie comparisons here, but we’d argue that Stevi was considerably better given that he A) had a better overall singing voice and B) he danced like nobody’s business. He was someone who willed his way into a pretty deep spot in the competition because nobody had the heart to get rid of him. We’re not seeing that with Honey G just yet.
