‘MasterChef’ season 7, episode 12 review: Did Terry go from winner favorite to out the door?
Wednesday night’s “MasterChef” is a two-hour affair, and we’re separating the two reviews up since, after all, they are two separate installments!
The first hour proved to be reasonably fun when it comes to entertainment, though creatively there was one issue that we had with it: Too much fish. We like variety on this show, and going from cod to salmon wasn’t that exciting.
Mystery Box – Shaun fittingly won a competition that was all about elevated ingredients, given that these are things he’s accustomed to using. We’re sure it would have been more fun to see underdog Brandi (who was in the top three) take it home, but we’re rather glad she didn’t give that it means the judges are thinking of food over quality. Kevin Sbraga joined as the guest judge, and he of course showed up everyone making THREE dishes.
As noted, cod was one of the ingredients here, and for the most part the home cooks did a good job.
Elimination Challenge – Shaun had the chance to place home cooks in two separate groups: Canned salmon and cooked salmon. He viewed this as a chance to eliminate a big threat this time around, which is why he went after Terry, David, and others. David did well — unfortunately, Terry did not. After losing someone in Andrea who was a potential favorite earlier this season, we were somewhat concerned that he’d be joining her out the door. The only other option was Tanorria, who has been very impressive in her own right.
Yet, this was Terry’s only serious misstep in the competition. Was that enough to send him home? Shockingly, yes. We thought cumulative results would’ve saved him, but we’re now without another of the most talented contestants moving forward. As of right now, we’ll say the door is WIDE OPEN as to who could win. A shocking result, but that in some ways lifts the quality of the episode (even if we’re bummed to see Terry go). Episode Grade: B.

This is ridiculous, has totally become a popularity contest terry was consistency in the top… They always talk about who has the potential… They should have sent her home not him. Such b.s.

There is no way that he should of went home. That was his only bad dish! I have a feeling there was a different reason. Perhaps he needed to go home and told producers and he was told to savatage his dish and Ramsey knew this and made him go home without having to “quit.

Terry did NOT deserve to go home. David and some others have done worst dishes and saved every time! But Terry, an amazing chef messes up once and they let him go?! He’s the best one this season! So disappointing! I’m done watching this.

I am through with this show!!!! Most of the winners chosen won because they were favored for their sob stories. It was bad enough when people like the stripper, Courtney or the poor, single mother, Claudia won when those seasons had better deserving chefs. Luca is the only person who won fairly in all the shows years.
Now this season, you saw a season with truly the best all around cook in Terry who had a real shot in winning the whole thing. He had one off night and that was the end of him. OUTRAGEOUS!! So many contestants in the past have had a few disasters including past season winners they and still survived. It’s sickening. Terry unfortunately was a casualty in this show’s biasness and unfairness.
Season 7 I think maybe the worst season yet because just about all the best cooks were already sent home unfairly. It was sad the way Andrea went when she had the best dish of the night a couple weeks ago. Now there are still much weaker chefs remaining like Nathan or Katie, who should both have been gone by the way.
I can see this season is already heavily favoring that thick accented southern, Brandi so much it’s not even funny. I’ll bet all my money she wins it all no matter who she faces based on the same reasons Courtney and Claudia won.
At the end of the day, this is a TV show so it’s more scripted and fake then real, no matter which way you look at it.

Terry WAS the best! Andrea had such a fun energetic spirit. They were both amazing cooks that stood out amongst what’s left. I’m sitting here sooo pissed!!! Since there’s other chefs still in the competition who have been given way too many chances. Why couldn’t Terry been given at least ONE more chance from his first mess up?!? All you producers on this show really messed up this time. I no longer want to watch this show. I love watching humble people so great. Its honorable to watch GOOD and GREAT people who are HUMBLE go far in life! And then you tear it away from the most honest humble person this season?!?!? Shame on you!!!

WTF, Terry sent home? As a black person; I think that this show is totally practices reverse bias. They are keeping the black girl to keep racial balance on the show. That is totally ridiculous. Terry was/is the better cook, with a great personality and great attitude, he should not have been selected for elimination. Compared to tenora’s double negative review for her dish to Terry’s single negative review; WTF… am through watching this show.

Loved Terry and Andrea..Now they are both gone.. I remember in seasons past they’d bring back contestants that shouldn’t have been eliminated, but it doesn’t seem they are going that way. The show has gone down since Joe Bastianich has left. No offense to Christina she is a great BAKER. I haven’t seen her cook anything that isn’t a dessert or something sweet. Its MASTERCHEF not MASTERBAKER which is all she has shown and as a judge that isn’t really acceptable.

It was pretty clear that the judges liked Terry’s dish slightly better and that he had not made a single mistake prior to this. From watching how the judges reacted to the two dishes in the elimination challenge, I can’t help but wonder if the decision was made due to skin color over food quality. There have been previous concerns with the producers interfering in decisions based on viewer demographics before. Regardless, both Terry and Tanorria are great cooks.

so done with this show, how could they let Terry go? He has been the most outstanding since June 1st, so humble and talented, and they know it. 1st mishap without a second chance? Never in the bottom before, unlike others that have been there repeatedly. Absurd. This show is definitely not the true indication of the best chef.. Surely it will show in their ratings now.

these are home cooks, and Terry was one of the best home cooks there, others have been able to stay with bigger mess ups, they didn’t even give a reason. You 3 big time chefs screwed up big time

Terry is one of the best chef in the show! He also has one of the best attitude! He has no arrogance, he has no attitude and he takes many challenges calmly. Every single elimination he stood out as one of the best. For for first mishap, he was kicked out??? Really disappointed with the result.
