The Pitt season 3: Supriya Ganesh on Samira Mohan’s exit

It has been known for a little while that The Pitt season 3 was not going to have Supriya Ganesh involved as Samira Mohan — a move that led to a rather large backlash online. It has easy been the most controversial decision that the series has made since its premiere, largely due to the 1) the show’s popularity and 2) the only major characters to exit between seasons so far have been women.

We have heard Noah Wyle and showrunner R. Scott Gemmill speak out about the departure before, stating that much of this decision came down to the reality of the hospital environment where doctors do come and go. That is certainly true, but it does not fully line up with the fact that season 3 takes place mere months after season 2 and technically, Mohan is still going to be employed at the hospital. She just will not be working on this particular day. (Once again, it may be realistic to some extent — but that does not make it any less frustrating.)

Speaking about her departure to the Los Angeles Times, Ganesh referenced Wyle, Gemmill and fellow executive producer John Wells when asked about the reason for her character’s exit:

“They work with such intention on the show and make all the choices that they make for that reason, so I think it’s better to ask them for answers … I’m going to treasure all the memories I had working with [the cast]. It’s been so great just getting all the love from the fans. I feel sad for them, too, that they won’t get to see this character.”

We do honestly wonder if there is a chance the actress could return for a season 4, but that would depend on two different things — the story and then also her availability.
