‘Rizzoli & Isles’ season 7, episode 7 review: Maura’s fencing skills and more!

Have there ever been an episode of “Rizzoli & Isles” as defined by an individual moment as the one that aired on TNT Tuesday night? We’re not quite sure, but we’re definitely not going to deny the entertainment value that was present in “Dead Weight.” This installment definitely felt like the right combination of entertainment and mystery, topped off with Maura showing off her fencing skills like never before.

From almost start to finish, we’d consider this to be one of the better Maura cases of the season just because she played such an active role. First and foremost, she was able to figure out that the incident of spontaneous combustion was not just that; it was murder! Then, of course at the tail end of it you had her chasing down the guilty party and finding a way to use some makeshift items to her advantage. Fun times!

As a whole, we’d say that this was one of the better cases just because everyone had something to do that was at least reasonably interesting, and with Maura out in the field a little bit more it at least felt more like an old-school episode of the show.

Aside from the mystery, though, kudos to the subplot that brought Jane to Quantico, where she was able to put a misogynistic recruit through their paces and get out the door. That’s certainly not the storyline we expected to see for her during this episode, but it’s important to call this sort of behavior out.

As a whole, we’re not going to say anything, fencing aside, was that memorable. Yet, we still very much enjoyed it. Grade: B+.
