‘Empire’ season 2, episode 15 review: Hakeem deals with Anika’s health scare; Lucious, Cookie’s big offer

Through much of the second half of “Empire” season 2, we have seen the character of Hakeem make what appeared to be a series of terrible decisions after voting against his own father being in control. He seized power as Empire Entertainment CEO, crashed and burned in the role, and also proposed after what seemed to be an incredibly short period of time with an irresponsibly huge ring.

So tonight, we saw a different side of Hakeem that reminded us more of why he has a softer, more capable side. He could be a good person, and he could also think things through when it comes to the mother of his unborn child. After Anika had a health scare that took her to the hospital, he was there for her. This came after, of course, his baby-supply bender where he tried to woo her over.

Back when it comes to Lucious and Cookie tonight, they received quite the offer: Run Empire together. Lucious quickly accepted, whether it be due to his desire to now be around Cookie again to also him maybe just being happy to not being out of a job anymore. They have worked better together lately, so isn’t that a good sign for the future of the company? We like that this was the last scene of the episode, mostly because it showed that the writers are more interested in hyping up character moments that big “shockers.”

We suppose that the biggest thing there would be Andre learning the truth about Lucious’ mother; she’s still alive! He’s not doing anything about it yet, but maybe over time. This was a nice seed to plant, and it is the icing on top of a pretty solid episode for the show. Grade: B+.
