‘Scorpion’ season 2, episode 10 review: Megan’s message; Walter’s pain
On last week’s episode of “Scorpion” we saw Sylvester and Megan get married. This allows Sylvester to have power over Megan’s medical choices instead of Walter, so that he can ensure that Megan’s wishes are being met. Walter took the news as well as he was going to, but is still determined to figure out a way to save her life.
Unfortunately for Mr. O’Brien, there are some cases he cannot solve, and some medical miracles that cannot happen. He may be a genius, but intellect sometimes cannot stop what feels like the inevitable. From the moment that we learned that Monday night’s new episode was entitled “Arrivals and Departures,” it felt fairly clear what we were leading up to: The likely death of a beloved character in Walter’s sister and Sylvester’s new wife. The show handled this in as pitch-perfect a way as they could, leading you into it for weeks and making sure that there was still something you could take away from this.
The big message came directly from Megan herself in a video that she left behind for Walter, encouraging him to use his heart along with his head, and to be more than just an awesome crime-solving machine. She knows that he can be, and hopefully these are words that stick with him. (These scenes in particular may have caused a flood of tears.) Walter spent most of the episode searching desperately for a way to stop a hospital outbreak and also her life, but it was alas to no avail.
This episode is clearly a game-changer to both Sylvester and Walter in their own ways; maybe it inspires them, it motivates them, or it touches them something about life and love that they did not know before. Maybe it is all of the above, but it will take time to process. Episode grade: A-.
