‘Major Crimes’ season 4, episode 11 review: Flynn’s trouble; Rusty gets conditions
After a long wait, “Major Crimes” returned to TNT with a few different stories that contained varying levels of intrigue to them.
We don’t typically like to spend much time in these episodes on the case of the week, mostly because at this point, trying to discuss these in-depth is often a losing battle. These cases just often are not that interesting compared to everything else the show brings to the table, or it feels at times like regurgitation when discussing them. What we will commend the show for with this one is at least giving us a few twists when it comes to a particularly deadly game of cards, including one person in particular figuring out that illegal gambling isn’t so bad when it comes to the wide array of other charges that they could be facing.
To us, the most compelling story was seeing Sharon in such a vulnerable place after seeing what happened to Flynn. This forced her to act quickly to save him; while we think that he will make it through this, we’re not going to see him just open his eyes and be okay. This will take some time, and hopefully draw the two even closer.
Meanwhile, what we saw with Rusty was interesting in how he is learning at a very early age the sort of politics that go into just about everything. Specifically, if he wants to get an interview with Slider, he has to agree to a list of demands that include screening questions and even heading to UCLA. This is the world of a present crime journalist, and we like having Rusty mixed in here just because his stories tend to be more of a slow burn. “Major Crimes” is a show about the mixture, and all of the elements tonight combined for a solid start to the next part of the season. Grade: B.

Love the Sharon, Andy, and Provenza parts of this episode. Major Crimes is my favorite show and I’m so hoping for a 5th season renewal from TNT.

I thought it was a great episode. The case kept me guess, and I loved Sharon and Andy. This show does such a great job of blending the human and professional side of the characters.
