ABC’s ‘Castle’: Is season 8 the end, or is more potentially to come?
“Castle” is one of those shows that has told a wide array of stories so far, and with that, they have run the gamut of everything from near-death experiences to a wedding, character deaths, new career paths, joy, and heartbreak. For a show that has been effectively about solving a new case every week or two, they have managed to find a way to cram a lot in.
The good news for many is that if you do like the characters on the show more than anything else, this does appear to be the theme for season 8. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter showrunners Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley confirmed that they are going with a feel that is a little less procedural, and putting a little more of the focus on interactions between some of the members of the cast.
As for whether or not the plan is for season 8 to be the last, as of right now Hawley is making it clear that he would be happy to continue forward, of course provided that the show gets an opportunity to do just that:
“I do think there are still stories to be told. The strength of the show is its characters and its actors and we’ve got that like crazy. Part of what we are trying to do this season is add fresh energy … by picking things up a little bit to infuse it with a bit more character all across the board is set ourselves up hopefully to go for a long time — but that’s not our decision. We hope we are talking about season nine next year.”
We’re not going to speculate too much on the long-term future at this point, mostly because there was a time when we weren’t sure that we would get to season 8 to begin with. We’re happy to go along for the ride however long the show stays at a high quality, and the ratings are past a certain threshold.

Just found this article and find it to be funny. Hawley says he’d like the show to be able to continue and then does his best to kill it by alienating almost all of the fans. Of course he has another show to move on to now, doesn’t he?
