‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5 spoilers: Meet Merlin and Guinevere

We suspected that “Once Upon a Time” was going to cast lesser-known actors for some of their new roles, mostly because they have had so much success with that in the past. Georgina Haig to us is probably the last reasonably-well-known person cast, and that was probably just to “Fringe” fans first and foremost.

According to Deadline, the series has found Elliot Knight (“How to Get Away with Murder”) to play the part of Merlin, the famed wizard who seems to be the only person with the knowledge and the know-how to take down the Dark One. We’re mostly surprised by this one since we envisioned someone a little older for this role. Then again, the show is probably exercising some creative muscle at the moment, mostly because of the fact that they gave such a literal interpretation of Anna and Elsa while also morphing Maleficent more into the Disney movie version of the character at least visually.

In addition to the ironically-named Knight to play the wizard, the series has also found their Guinevere in Joana Metrass, an Portuguese actress who could be making her American television debut with this show.

Also, Andrew Jenkins will be playing the part of Percival, a loyal knight in King Arthur’s court. We’ve already written a thing or two about Arthur over at the link here, so be sure to check that out.
