‘The Blacklist’ season 2, episode 19 preview: First details on Megan Boone – James Spader story in ‘Leonard Caul’
This past episode of “The Blacklist” was significant enough that it could have worked as a proper season finale in many ways. This is, after all, an episode that included Liz Keen more or less throwing the Fulcrum in Red’s face after learning the truth that he was the one who hired Tom, and he set her entire life down this bizarre path that has led her to where she is today. He’s never been a good person, and yet somehow, we are for the most part surprised that he ended up stooping to this level.
So are they going to work together again after this? If we were in Liz’s shoes, we are not entirely sure that we could be convinced almost under any circumstance to go through with this. What in the world would the motive be? The synopsis below makes it clear that Red is going to give this the ol’ college try, but it’s probably going to take a lot to have her really considering this:
“As Red (James Spader) fights for his life, he pleads with Liz (Megan Boone) to track down Nicholas Caul – a mysterious figure from his past with knowledge of The Fulcrum. It’s a race against time for the task force to locate Caul before Red’s life is threatened again, while Tom (Ryan Eggold) proves helpful in an unexpected way.”
One thing that Red may have to consider right now is simple, if he wants to continue to have Liz around: Admit to the truth about everything. If he does this, and makes it clear how he really is connected to her past, it is very well possible that she could be convinced. Even then, though, it is still somewhat of a stretch.

I thought we found out that he hired Tom, a couple weeks ago. I agree, he hired him to watch Liz, but not fall for her. Berlin paid the Major more money to work for him. I think Red already knew Tom turned to Berlin, I bet in the very beginning. Liz and Tom had already been married two years before we meet them. I think that is part of the reason Red turned him self in, because he knew Tom was working both sides and needed to get Tom out of Liz’s life. Red also needed the fulcrum, and Liz is the key. I believe Red sincerely loves her and wants her to be safe and happy. He screwed up by hiring Tom and his plan backfired. I believe Red sincerely regrets that.

I doubt Red would tell her that he’s her father, but I do think he will explain why he put Tom in her life. I personally don’t think Red hired Tom to eventually marry her but if he did it was definitely thought it through to have Tom protect her. I think Red might have thought there was something in Tom before that he wanted to give him a second chance at life where he would be able to live without having to run for the rest of his life and his daughter (Lizzy) would be safe. Two birds with one stone. He miscalculated Tom’s character, of course, and when Tom took Berlin’s offer over his, Berlin had Tom get as close to Lizzy as possible so he could use that against Red. Red would try to rectify the situation of course but for some reason, he couldn’t get Tom or the guy who gives him these jobs to change their minds.
