‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 7, episode 8: Katey Sagal teases Gemma’s grim fate
While the complete ending to Gemma’s story arc on “Sons of Anarchy” is not entirely clear at the moment, there are a few things that we’ve come to learn about it already. For example, she’s holding a great deal of guilt and self-loathing over the death of Tara, and no matter how afraid she may be to have this secret go public, there is never going to be a way for her to feel any better.
What’s interesting in a way is that it almost doesn’t matter at this point if this woman lives of dies, given that there is tragedy in it either way. This is something Katey Sagal touched on recently TV Guide, while she spoke about the inevitability of Jax finding out about what happened to his wife at his own mother’s hands:
“I don’t think there is any relief for Gemma, dead or alive … She’s is so much about her family and this life, and that’s just shredding. To think of her living without [that family] or being dead, they both seem the same. There is no redemption for Gemma.”
The way that we see Tara’s endgame for now is that if she dies, she missed out potentially on seeing the children grow up. However, if she lives, there is a chance that she potentially witnesses Jax die as a result of her own actions. There are fates worse than death, and this series has in particular done a good job of cultivating that in a way that others before have not.
