‘Girls’ season 4 spoilers: Lena Dunham collides with … Judd Apatow’s daughter?
Chalk this one up to a casting story that definitely surprised us, but at the same time really shouldn’t.
TVLine confirms that Maude Apatow, the daughter of executive producer Judd Apatow, will be appearing in multiple episodes of “Girls” season 4. For the time being, the only thing that is 100% confirmed about her character right now is that her name is Cleo. (We thought that Miss Cleo had completely destroyed the use of this name as anything in popular culture.)
The reason that we say we shouldn’t be surprised about this casting and thanks mostly to the series of actors on this show who are also relatives or descendants of famous people. Allison Williams is obviously the daughter of NBC anchor Brian Williams, while Zosia Mamet is playwright David Mamet’s daughter, and Jemima Kirke is the daughter of Bad Company drummer Simon Kirke. They’re all worthy of the parts, so this isn’t some sort of bizarre nepotism situation with this show; plus, it’s not like an NBC newsman could tell HBO what to do with their programming in the first place.
“Girls” season 4 is one that we really feel has a ton of high expectations for it, given that it is coming off what we would personally proclaim to be the weakest season for the show to date. Season 3 made Hannah very unlikable at times, and there wasn’t enough movement with some of the other stories. We’re interested to see how Maude Apatow fits into this story, and with a guest cast that already includes Zachary Quinto and others.
