‘Big Brother Canada 2’ finale: An on-set report from Jon Pardy’s win
By the time that you are reading this article, you may already know that the “Big Brother Canada 2” season is over, and that Jon Pardy is now the winner. Full disclosure in that we haven’t seen the episode that aired on Slice, mostly because we were there in person to see all of the action go down first-hand.
What we want to do with this article is similar to what we did last year, and inform you on some of the fun stuff that happened at the finale that you possibly didn’t see. While there wasn’t the same level of shock or stupor that we had in season 1 when Topaz voted for the wrong person (which was super-insane and only a fraction made it on TV), this one was pretty straightforward save for the shocking moves.
1. There were a number of US houseguests in attendance from last season, including Spencer Clawson, Amanda Zuckerman, McCrae Olson, Judd Daugherty, Andy Herren, and Ian Terry. “Jedi” Howie Gordon was also present, but seated in a different part of the audience. Howie was really the life of the party at taping, and there was an unprecedented amount of silly trash-talk between him and the more-recent players.
2. Every contestant from “Big Brother Canada 1” with the exception of Aneal (who wasn’t able to make it), and they received a nice reception. Gary and Peter, as hosts of the “Side Show,” were seated a little closer to the audience.
3. The biggest moment for the crowd was when Jon evicted Neda, and there were truly stunned faces. You didn’t really get a sense on the live feeds before they were down that this was something that he was thinking about. The crowd was very pro-Jon / Neda, but Sabrina did have her supporters even beyond family members.
4. There were some jury members who were truly starstruck upon seeing the former houseguests in attendance. Arlie was beside himself, while Neda proclaimed to Ian that she had a crush on him during his season.
5. Host Arisa Cox really does have fun with the contestants and the audience during taping; she’s not that image of a TV host you think of that suddenly comes on when the cameras are rolling.
6. From the moment that the jury was brought out, it was never in doubt that Jon was going to win the season. For someone who saw $100,000 fly out of her hands, Neda was in good spirits.
7. Out of the pre-jury houseguests, Kenny had the largest number of shout-outs from the audience.
8. There was discussion about whether or not there will be casting updates soon, but “Big Brother Canada” has not been renewed yet. We feel like it will be, but nothing is assured.
In the end, though, most of the good stuff should have ended up on the air. Most of the filler this season consisted of “oohs,” “ahs,” and crazy speculation about how many votes Jon would have after he evicted Neda.
We’re going to have a ton of “Big Brother Canada” coverage for you tonight, including interviews with the jury and exclusive photos. You’ll be able to see all of that at the link here, or the sidebar to the right of this article (pending you are seeing this within the next few days).
