‘Supernatural’ season 9, episode 22 preview: Jensen Ackles’ Dean becomes awfully possessive

There are some serious Gollum moments happening right now on “Supernatural” when it comes to Dean and the First Blade, and following what we saw when it comes to it Tuesday night, the sneak peek from next week’s “Stairway to Heaven” proves that the problem is not going away anytime soon. Dean really feels like he needs the blade, and Sam is starting to see what it is doing to him.

The video below shows off a heated debate between Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles’ characters on whether or not to bring the blade with them after receiving a call from Castiel, with Dean of course being adamant that it should come along for the ride. In theory, we actually do see where Dean is coming from here and agree with him. It’s always great to have as much ammunition as possible for a fight to get Heaven back on track!

However, at the same time Sam is acting off of instinct here. He sees something when it comes to his brother and this blade that he doesn’t like, and of course he wants to do most of everything that he can in order to ensure that he turns out okay in the end. We see this becoming a big problem as the season progresses, especially if we get to a point where Metatron is potentially defeated and Dean in theory doesn’t need the blade anymore. Is he still going to cling to it, or will he actually give it up for the sake of his mental well-being? Time will very much tell.
