‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 4, episode 20 review: Aria, Ezra, and Alison shockers galore
You knew that there were going to be shockers all over tonight’s “Pretty Little Liars” episode, but did you expect Ezra to come up with some sort of story that could actually be compelling in some ways for how he knew Alison DiLaurentis? That was the big curveball at the center of “Free Fall.”
The story Ezra told Aria was certainly interesting, since it contained claims that he knew Alison, but at the same time never wanted to kill her. Instead, he was trying to tell a true-crime story about her, and initially met Aria to just get himself thrown into the story. It was an answer, but probably not the answer that everyone wanted.
In some ways, we are inclined to actually believe what Ezra was saying about a book, but that really doesn’t explain his surveillance, or anything else that he has been working on as of late. After all, he has done so many nice things … but either way, we do feel like there is much more to this story than we know. “Pretty Little Liars” has never really been the sort of show that allows you to see the full picture. We don’t think we have seen anywhere near the full story yet when it comes to some of these characters, and that includes whoever “A” really is. At this point in time, it’s much too easy for it to be Ezra and Ezra alone.
As for the rest of the story, it was hit-or-miss. Emily had nothing really to do, while Spencer’s breakdown felt like a complete retread of the past. Nothing new to see here. Grade: B.
