‘Episodes’ season 3 trailer: See Matt LeBlanc bring his brand of comedy back

Sundays are traditionally not the first day that you think of when it comes to comedy. However, this is going to change on Sunday, January 12. Not only do you have “Girls” starting up on HBO with an hour-long premiere and “House of Lies” premiering, but “Episodes” will be coming back after a long hiatus with some more installments of its own.

Here is the thing about being Matt LeBlanc: You have so much “Friends” money tucked away that there is really no pressure to get content together quickly. He and the writers take their time with this show. The only unfortunate thing about the new trailer released for season 3 is that rather than some individual funny bits (including pleas for a hug and a surprise DUI arrest), there are not really any actual details about what you can expect. There is still something here that the team are forcing you to wait on.

But will viewers remember the show well enough to come back to it? When you have competition from both “Girls,” “Looking” (which will be premiering against “Episodes” on January 19), and then all of the programming on broadcast TV, it is a legitimate concern, especially when we would not consider this show a ratings warrior in the first place. It is likely going to rely on two things for its success: Quality, and also people watching it either in repeats, on demand, or on their DVRs after it airs. Live viewing is only a tiny piece of the puzzle for Showtime, which is the same way that it is for HBO and most of the other pay-cable networks. It’s mostly about the show’s outreach to the subscriber base across the board more than the amount of people watching on one night.
