ABC’s ‘Revenge’ season 3, episode 9 review: Emily VanCamp, Madeleine Stowe’s latest problem
During Sunday night’s new “Revenge” season 3 episode, we had the opportunity to see some pretty shocking developments. For one, Emily’s wedding seems to be a go … sort of. But, at the same time, there is a pretty huge problem: After everything that Emily Thorne has been through in order to try and make sure that her “dream” wedding (otherwise known as her dream to frame Victoria) went off without a hitch, the twist now is that the Grayson family matriarch doesn’t even want to come anymore.
In the end, Emily may have overplayed her hand somewhat when it comes to Victoria, at least in terms of thinking that she really could outsmart her. Instead, what she ended up getting here was a situation where Emily tried to pin the leak about her baby on her, and either Victoria realized that something was off, or she just decided that she did not want to be a part of the spectacle anymore.
After all, you also have to consider here that her own plan to set Daniel up with Sara failed, since the leak of the story basically rendered it impossible for him to be able to do anything but marry Emily. Otherwise, his reputation would be hit so hard that he would never recover. There was a nice dichotomy from Emily VanCamp played here, as she coolly played Daniel’s fiancee while also as Amanda Clarke she accepted his proposal.
The only other major development that you want to keep track of here is the big news when it comes to Jack and Margaux: She is dropping her push on Conrad, mostly because Jack fears for her life. It’s a difficult pill to swallow, but Jack could be close to happiness for the first time since his wedding … maybe. All in all, some of the Emily / Victoria back-and-forth was repetitive; but, this was still a good episode that set up the winter finale. Grade: B-.
