‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’ season 6, episode 6 review: Kandi Burruss’ wedding dress woes
This has been by far the most entertaining season of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and even though we initially thought that it was going to be a great season because of Kenya Moore’s wacky personality, she has easily been a background player this season to some of the other ladies… and to be honest we are thankful for it. Phaedra, Porsha and Kandi have been front and center of all the Atlanta drama this go around and it’s made us excited about the show again.
Kandi’s wedding dress problems: She has had a really hard time with her mother and her fiance Todd. While it seems that Todd has done nothing wrong and just wants to marry the woman of his dreams, Momma Joyce has no interest in letting that happen. She says that she thinks Todd is a gold digger and out for Kandi’s money, but the more we watch the show the more we feel that Momma Joyce is really just worried that she is going to lose her control over Kandi once she becomes a wife and therefore will run every man off that tries to marry her. We were happy to see Momma Joyce accompany Kandi when she went to buy a wedding dress with her best friend Carmen, but ever since Momma Joyce heard rumors (or possibly made up these rumors herself according to Carmen) that Carmen and Todd are fooling around behind Kandi’s back, Momma Joyce wants Carmen (and Todd) out of Kandi’s life. We weren’t shocked to see things quickly escalate between Momma Joyce and Carmen at the dress shop, but it makes us very sad for Kandi that her mother is so out of control during a time that should be her happiest.
After a fight that involved Momma Joyce threatening to hit Carmen with a shoe, Carmen went to another room to cool out while Kandi got a lecture from her mother and other two family members about how none of them wanted her to marry Todd as she stood there in her wedding dress. She later spoke to Carmen who basically laid it out saying that Kandi needs to get control of this situation because everyone’s suffering as Kandi rides the fence on both sides.
What we really want to see is for Kandi to get control of her mother and get her life on track to where she can become Todd’s wife. Momma Joyce needs a reality check and Kandi’s the only one that can do it… otherwise we could easily see Todd checking out of this relationship.
Apollo woes: Last week Apollo got some great marital advice from Peter and it’s probably the best advice I’ve ever heard a man give to another man: If your wife doesn’t like a particular woman… then you don’t like that woman also. We thought that Apollo had heard Peter loud and clear with that one, but he seems to be pretty adamant that he did nothing wrong when it comes to text messaging Kenya Moore behind his wife’s back. In the end he tells Phaedra that understands that she’s upset by what he did and apologizes, saying he won’t do it again.
Porsha’s hospital visit: Porsha passed out while walking down the stairs and was rushed to the hospital saying that she was dehydrated and over stressed. Guess the trip to Savannah with the ladies came up at just the right time and we’ll be seeing more of that on next week’s episode.
Over all this was a very Kandi-centric episode and although our hearts completely broke for Kandi, it was a really great episode as it made us feel something and got us fired up. It’s rare that we find ourselves so involved in a “Real Housewives” program, but here we are. Grade: B+
