‘American Horror Story: Coven’ spoilers: ‘Fringe’s’ Lance Reddick taking on wicked new role

The latest -For those of you thinking that “American Horror Story: Coven” could use some more memorable men, this bit of casting news should be right up your alley. The following could also be true if you just so happen to be an enormous fan of “Fringe.”

In news first reported by Entertainment Weekly, Lance Reddick has signed on to play the role of Papa Legba, a man who could be otherwise identified as “voodoo Satan.” He also has some sort of personal history with Madame Laveau, the character played by Angela Bassett. While it may be unclear for the time being just how substantial a role he is going to have on the show, he will clearly be linked in some way to the story in these final few episodes that start airing in January.

Reddick is a sci-fi fan favorite, and this alone should be enough to generate a good bit of excitement among the “American Horror Story” faithful. We also feel like he is valuable at this point in helping us learn a little bit more about who Laveau really is. Right now, she is probably the weakest character thanks largely to us simply not knowing a lot about her. Some of her motivations are mysteries for the time being, and it feels like there are big holes in her backstory just waiting to be filled in. Some of that may be done on tonight’s all-new episode, but we also figure that it could take a little while longer for the pieces to fall completely into place.

Reddick’s casting is another win for Ryan Murphy, who’s assembled one of the best casts out there this season thanks to the likes of Kathy Bates, Danny Huston, and even Stevie Nicks joining the show for the first time.
