‘Wheel of Fortune’ unfortunately airs ‘Fast and the Furious’ puzzle after Paul Walker tragedy

Fast and the Furious -Now may not be one of the greatest days in the history of “Wheel of Fortune,” at least when it comes to having some of the most unfortunate timing ever when it comes to one of its puzzles. During a show that aired across many markets of the country last night, there was a puzzle that read out “The Fast and the Furious” after it. Of course, the difficult part of this is that this comes mere days after the tragic car death of one of the movie franchise’s biggest stars in Paul Walker.

Of course, there is no intent here to be insensitive when it comes to the title. The show, which featured a variety of military contestants, was taped a long time before Walker’s death happened; not only that, but the episode was sent out to networks to air last week. Clearly, nobody knew that there was going to be the terrible accident that transpired, and it is just one of those eerie coincidences that happens in life.

While you could argue if you want that the show should have delayed the puzzle airing, we feel like it was handled with about as much respect as possible in the situations. During most airings, there was a message crawled across the top saying that this was filmed weeks before Walker’s death. Not only that, but both the show itself as well as Pat Sajak spoke out about it on Twitter.

“Wheel of Fortune” – “The show that included the puzzle “The Fast and The Furious” was taped on 10/4/13. It’s an unfortunate coincidence that it aired tonight. The hearts of everyone at Wheel of Fortune go out to the family, friends & fans of Paul Walker.”

Pat Sajak – “Feel terrible about timing of “Fast & Furious” puzzle tonight. Taped long ago & went out to 200 local stations days ago.”

The Hollywood community is still mourning Walker, with some of his co-stars including Vin Diesel and Jordana Brewster offering up condolences. There are no plans in place as of yet pertaining to when the next installment in the franchise is going to debut in theaters.
