‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9, episode 12 preview: A longer look at Ted as Liberace

When HBO aired “Behind the Candelabra”, we don’t quite imagine this is what they had in mind. Monday night’s “How I Met Your Mother” looks to be a pretty fun hour of TV themed around a “Rehearsal Dinner”, and for also seeing Ted dress up as famed pianist Liberace.

You may have seen some of the footage in the new promo for this episode before, mostly because some of it was included in a shorter video. But this video allows for even more silliness themed around the notion of what Barney wants to do for the dinner … which apparently involves playing laser tag. The only kind of rehearsal this would be for is a tournament all about being awesome (at least if you’re 12 years old).

As for Ted’s new costume, this is the sort of out-of-context promo moment that still makes no sense at all to us. Why on earth would you do this? The only reason that we can think of is that it’s some sort of flashback, ridiculous Ted fantasy, or something that he was dared to do. Ted’s not exactly known for his piano-playing skills in the first place, but it does seem like something that he would be interested in doing courtesy of all of the hipster parts of his personality.

There is no sight of the Mother in the promo, and also no verification that she will appear. However, you can at least take some solace in that the journey for Marshall is finally near its end after being separated from the group for most of the entire run of the series so far. That has to feel like a breath of fresh air at this point, given the criticism from those who wanted to see him arrive at the dinner a heck of a lot faster.
