‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5, episode 9 preview: A Paul Wesley – Candice Accola scene

The latest -For those of you who actively ship Caroline Forbes and Stefan Salvatore on “The Vampire Diaries,” we have a feeling you are going to appreciate the video below from Thursday night’s episode “The Cell.” While it doesn’t go so far as to show them doing anything romantic, we like to think of it as a nice sort of reminder that these two are still continuing to build upon their friendship.

The basic structure of this scene is pretty simple, at least in that Caroline is desperate to try and get Paul Wesley’s character to try to confront the past. She basically forces him to look hard at what happened to him drowning time and time again earlier this year, mostly so that he can handle his post-traumatic stress disorder. Candice Accola plays this perfectly, especially since, as noted by Stefan, she really doesn’t have any idea at all what it really even means clinically to suffer from such a thing. She’s a drama major, which is still funny in itself given that the majority of the drama that we’ve seen from Caroline happens just in her everyday life.

In the end, it’s still a tough debate whether or not Stefan and Caroline should ever get together. From one standpoint, we totally understand the desire from the fans given that they have such a great friendship. But at the same time, we want to see that friendship continues to grow and persevere, and not see the two of them eventually become some sort of ugly romantic cliche. That has taken over so many friends-but-now-something-more relationships on TV that it would make us worry about this one.

Want to know what Stefan’s brother Damon is going to be up to moving into the next two episodes? It’s not going to be pretty, and you can see some teasers for it starting over at the link here. We’ll have more from this episode later this weekend, so be sure to stay tuned for more on that.
