‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9 spoilers: Jason Segel on Marshall meeting the Mother

Get ready -For those of you wondering who was going to be the next character to actually meet the Mother on “How I Met Your Mother,” we now have an answer for you: It’s Marshall. Not only that, but we know that he is going to be actually meeting the character reasonably soon. As a matter of fact, the actor is speaking out now about just this meeting could be like.

Speaking as a part of a new interview with TVLine, the actor did his part to explain in full just what sort of story we could expect to see from his character, and also why it is so important that these two characters especially manage to get off on the right foot together. After all, it could be so easy for them not to:

“I’m shooting an episode as we speak where I may have my first scenes with The Mother. The [scenes] are incredibly charming. Look, I have to get along with her — I’m Ted’s best friend! They really nailed that aspect of it in a way that I didn’t anticipate. They did something really smart in the scenes, in that Marshall and she are kind of peas in a pod, which I think is just brilliant.”

Of course, we imagine that him proclaiming that Marshall is Ted’s best friend is a delightful sort of undercut at Barney, who definitely likes to fashion himself in that same role. The two guys both clearly have themselves quite a connection to Ted in their own right, and what would make this particularly remarkable if Marshall likes her is that it means that she will have met every member of Ted’s gang … except for him and Robin. Of course, that is the difficult challenge, since she is the one that continues to leave him stuck in fear gear and unable to move forward in his life.
