‘Criminal Minds’ season 9, episode 10 preview: First look at ‘The Caller’ (video)
We cannot really sit here with a straight face and say that we understand exactly what the logic of “Criminal Minds” is right now. While we know that “Survivor” has a new episode next week and it has to in order for its season to run on time, why is this show going in the same direction? It has been pretty well-documented already that Thanksgiving shows (or at least those around it) tend to produce smaller ratings, and it’s therefore possible that the show we are looking at here is one that is not going to produce that much of a ratings bite.
Sadly, the synopsis for the installment itself (entitled “The Caller”) does not really feel like one that is particularly notable, and is blowing us away with any surprise:
“When a young boy goes missing from his home in St. Louis, the BAU reinvestigates a similar cold case to search for the UnSub, on CRIMINAL MINDS, Wednesday, Nov. 27 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Guest stars include Doug Savant and Marika Dominczyk as Malcolm and Lida Taffert, parents of the missing child.”
At least the promo below for the episode makes it feel like something that is a little more interesting, at least from the standpoint of giving you something that feels like a great story for a horror movie. There are murders and abductions taking place, and phone calls are involved. This almost feels like the opening scene of “Scream.” It’s not the most original idea in the world for an episode, but at least the show is trying to do something different for what is likely to be a straightforward and one-shot episode. That way, you don’t really miss out on much if you are busy traveling for the holiday.
