‘Katie’: ‘X Factor’s’ Demi Lovato on Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, more
When it comes to Miley, the biggest thing that Demi stressed is that really, nobody else understands the expectations of someone who becomes identified with something as big as “Hannah Montana,” and the pressure that may come with that to try to change things up:
“I think she knows what she’s doing. A lot of artists take that route, of shock value, and that’s totally fine and that’s great, but she has such an incredible voice that’s overshadowed by some of the things that she’s doing … It’s her journey, she’s having fun, she’s being who she is, and I’ll always love her.”
Demi joked that instead of taking up twerking, she instead went to rehab. She also cited her longtime friend Selena Gomez and also the jonas Brothers as some others who have went through the machine and faced scrutiny on the other side. (Demi of course at one point dated Joe Jonas, and the band recently broke up.)
In a lot of ways, we get what Demi’s saying, and we’re not really in a position to judge. The bigger issue that we think that someone like Miley is going to have long-term is that she will have a hard time being able to continue this train of antics deeper in her career, and it could be harder to show off that sensitive side.
What do you think about Demi’s comments, ans do you think that we have a tendency to really paint most of these Disney artists and former teen stars with too judgmental of a lens?
