NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5 spoilers: First look at Jonathan Banks
There are all sorts of new additions coming to “Community” season 5 this year, but one of the most-notable ones is coming in the form of Jonathan Banks. The “Breaking Bad” star is recurring for much of the season as the new professor-of-the-season, and based on this photo, he doesn’t look in theory nearly as intimidating as he did as Mike on the AMC show. (Of course, there could be so much more here than meets the eye.)
Banks’ character could serve as a nice little source of friction for the study group, or if nothing else guide them through what has to be the end of their time at community college. These people have to graduate eventually … right? It’s still a surprise that Joel McHale’s Jeff Winger is even at the school at all, given that he technically completed his graduation early at the end of season 4 (otherwise known as the season that shall not be named).
“Community” returns on January 2, and while it may be crazy, we can’t help but think about how one of the biggest story threads related to the show could be whether or not there is a pickup for a sixth season in the works if the ratings do well enough. The great news here is that it is really not going to take too much for this show to be classified a hit now on NBC. After all, most of their other comedies are averaging between a 1.1 in the 18-49 demographic and a 1.3, and the show was drawing close to these ratings last year without Dan Harmon on board. We’re assuming that a good chunk of these people will be interested in flocking back to the show now, if for no other reason than that some of the old creativity and spirit could be back on the menu.

I feel like if I stare at the photo long enough I should be able to figure out what he’s saying. That’s Buzz Hickey probably asking where the strategically best place to sit is. His son, in the later episode, his name is Hank Hickey. I’m @gistobe.
